With the busy Christmas week done, we turned our efforts to our New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner & Disco.
Every year we host a New Year’s extravaganza for our guests and the only difference this year, was that I would be attending as a guest!
I was thoroughly looking forward to enjoying an evening of delicious drinks, fantastic food and cracking company! After all, the festive season is all about spending time with family and loved ones.
On arriving at the hotel we headed through to the Resident’s Bar & Lounge to be greeted with welcome drinks of Kir Royale; an excellent way to start the evening as I love a Kir Royale (Prosecco and Creme de Cassis)!
Whilst enjoying our welcome drinks and nattering away to family we’d just met up with, we were soon offered canapes that were being served around the lounge and bar area.
The canapes included tasters of Venison, Smoked Salmon and Goats Cheese & Cranberry and were very yummy indeed!
The scene was set for a perfect evening and as I made my way back through to the lounge, I was delighted to find the Magician for the evening, Tom Hudson aka Afro Magic, mingling amongst the guests and knew we were in for a treat!
Tom is a personal friend of mine and performed at a recent bash for me, so I knew just what to expect!
I’m such a big kid when it comes to magic, absolutely love it and become very excitable, as I’m sure Tom would tell you and indeed the other guests!
I watched on in awe as he performed magic for my Aunt and Uncle, which caused quite a stir and there was soon a small audeince of other guests who’d gathered round to see what was happening.

We were then invited through to the dining room to take our seats for dinner.
We had already pre ordered our selections, so awaited the first course being served.
I began with Goats Cheese Bon-Bon. It was presented as three mini bon bon’s, deep fried and filled with Goats Cheese on a bed of salad leaves, delicious!
Next up was a Gin & Tonic sorbet to cleanse the palate bewteen courses, again this was delicious!!
The main course followed with a beautiful piece of Fillet of Beef served with fondant potato, spinach and seasonal vegetables finished with a lovely jus.
The beef was cooked to perfection and so soft!
Next up was dessert. I’d opted for an interesting choice of Pistachio & Olive Oil cake. Odd in theory, but absolutely divine in reality! It was garnished with a chocolate sorbet and was simply scrumptious!
By this point, I was getting rather full, but feeling extrememly satisfied all the same!
During dinner, guests were able to have a giggle with the individual party boxes we’d each been provided with.
One of the contents was a long balloon that you had to blow up with a little straw, then let it off and it flew around the dining room making a funny noise, making everyone laugh, great fun!
Also during this time, Afro Magic continued around the dining room, mingling between the guests and performing table side magic between courses.
This went down a storm and would have to say he was probably the biggest hit of the night with guests and staff alike!
He never fails to delight and amaze with his magic tricks and you’re never too old to enjoy magic in my opinion. I even got to bring home my cards as souveniers!
Here is one where he burnt the underside and made my actual card appear on the card I’d selected, MAGIC!!!
Come the end of the New Year’s Eve Gala dinner, our guests were nicely warmed up and ready to party into 2016 with our resident party DJ Derek, who played all the well known hits, party songs, requests and more!
Before we knew it, it was time for the big countdown to midnight.
We grabbed our champagne flutes and gathered together with family on the dancefloor, ready to toast the New Year.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
The clock struck twelve and the room erupted into cheers, well wishes and kisses all round, swiftly followed by a sing song of Auld Lang Syne of course!
2016 had arrived and we danced our way into the wee hours with our fellow guests.
Such a fun evening and quality time had with family, which is what the festive season is all about after all!
