As you may have seen a couple of weeks ago on our Facebook page, we now have our very own racehorse, ‘Kimberley Girl’
Kimberley Girl is a two year old filly trained by the legendary Yorkshire trainer Mick Easterby and will be aimed at sprint distances.
She made her Racecourse debut at Newcastle just two weeks ago, finishing 6th out of twelve, a fantastic achievement for her very first race!
Her second race took place last night, again at Newcastle, at an evening meeting, on the all-weather Tapeta track on the outer of the jumps track.
This new all-weather track at Newcastle currently stands as the only floodlit all-weather straight mile in the world!
Riding Kimberley Girl for a second consecutive race, was jockey Harrison Shaw, from Mick Easterby Racing.
Harrison is from a show-jumping background and since joining the team at the end of 2016, he has gained his jockey’s license. He now rides for the yard as an apprentice jockey and is definitely one to watch with some promising wins already under his belt.
As we entered the parade ring, it was plain to see our fiesty filly was fired up for the race ahead and we were filled with excitement and pride as we watched her stride around the ring.
We watched the race from the finishing line, where Kimberley and Harrison ran a cracking race and although taking a knock not long out of the starting blocks, she pushed on to place third, a wonderful achievement for her second race and a 50% improvement on placing from her debut race!
We think they make a lovely partnership and horse and jockey compliment each other well, both keen for the wins and both showing huge potential, making for exciting times ahead!
Keep following our social media pages for more tales from the track!
